The IET Awards Tim Peake with Honorary Fellowship at its 150th Anniversary

In 2021, the most prestigious accolade in engineering from the IET goes to Tim Peake. The award is in recognition of his significant contribution to the space industry.

Over the years, Tim Peake’s primary focus has been the exploration and innovation of space technology. In 2015, he became the first British astronaut from European Space Agency (ESA) to set foot in the ISS (International Space Station).

The mission was successful, and he came back to earth after an incredible 186 days spent in space. However, his current position involves outreach and educational program under the UKSA (United Kingdom Space Agency). The mission is to encourage more youth to take an interest in the space industry.

IET Awards Tim Peake Honorary Fellowship

The IET is in charge of awarding the Honorary Fellowship to respected professionals. The board of trustees selects the recipient each year. Each chosen candidate must have played a significant role in technology, engineering, and others related to these.

Currently, Tim Peake is among the most respected high achievers in the UK. He is also a member of the Advisory Board at a British rocket manufacturer Skyrora. He expressed his deep gratitude once he received the award. Also, he reiterated his commitment to the space industry and planned to keep educating more people.

For him, the younger generation is the future of the space industry. That’s why he is passionate about encouraging more youth to focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) subjects.

The IET President, Professor Danielle George MBE, expressed his delight since the recipient was an outstanding and respected specialist. The awards ceremony took place at the 150th IET’s Anniversary celebration. The president reiterated that the recipient is an inspiration to many in different fields. Lots of people in the UK and the world view Tim Peake as a hero.
