Elecnor Deimos to Develop the Satellites Program sat4EO for the ESA

18th Sep 2020

The companies Elecnor Deimos, Teledyne e2v, and Surrey Satellite have united forces and signed a contract that will make it possible to turn the sat4EO satellite program into a reality. By taking care of the most critical factors, the ESA will obtain a cost-effective, high-resolution system.

Working on New Commercial Products for the Earth Observation Industry

Elecnor Deimos will work alongside the other companies for the ESA’s InCubed program, which specializes in developing commercial products based on Earth Observation (EO) – an evolving and rapidly-growing industry.

Furthermore, the program’s products will enjoy rapid integration in the market and the support of the national delegations of the following countries:

  • United Kingdom (UK Space Agency)
  • Romania (ROSA)
  • Spain (CDTI)

Elecnor Deimos, Teledyne and Surrey Satellite to Use Revolutionary Technology

To deliver and meet the ESA’s program’s expectations, the chosen companies have combined the following elements:

  • Cutting-edge technology
  • Miniaturized solutions
  • Built-in constellation-based redundancy

Combining these elements and methods will bring the sat4EO to life and introduce several types of satellites based on performance, size, cost, operational capabilities, efficiency, and resolution quality.

It will bring all the current and future EO customers and users with different satellite solutions depending on their needs and requirements.

How is the ESA InCubed Program Involved?

Elecnor Deimos and the other companies receive support from the ESA InCubed program in financial support and expert advice on the project’s fundamental areas, such as:

  • Instrument Product Chain (IPC)
  • Attitude and Orbit Control System (AOCS)

All of which are essential to bringing the sat4EO program to reality. Furthermore, the funding will cover the following areas:

  • Improving the AOCS in charge of Elecnor Deimos, to improve the image quality, performance, agility, and precision of the system
  • Developing an optimal payload of superior high-resolution in charge of Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd, Teledyne e2v (TDI CMOS sensor on-chip), and Elecnor Deimos (mining platform and ground processor)

Summary

To bring the sat4EO project to reality, the ESA has hired the best companies in the field for critical factors. Elecnor Deimos, Surrey Satellite, and Teledyne e2v are already working on the program.

Once they complete it, we will see a market full of reliable, precise, and modern satellites to serve the industry, available at different prices ranging from cost-effective to premium and high-performance.
