Orbex Space

Orbex Space are a rocket launch company established in 2015 with plans to launch small satellites into orbit from Sutherland in Scotland and the Portuguese Azores Islands.

The company, Orbital Express Launch Ltd, shortened to Orbex, was the recipient of UKSA grants to provide launch services at Sutherland via its Prime rocket.

The consortium put together for the Sutherland Spaceport, as well as Orbex Space, also included Lockheed Martin, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Madrid-based Elecnor Deimos. However, Lockheed Martin parted company from Orbex when it became clear that the launch site would only accommodate a single launch pad customised for Orbex’ Prime rocket.

Its directors are based mostly in Germany and Denmark, although the company does have a registered company in the UK and a recently opened facility in Forres, Scotland.
