Star Wars: Zero Company – A New Single-Player Turn-Based Tactics Game Revealed
18th Apr 2025
The Star Wars universe is once again expanding into new territory, this time in the form of a turn-based strategy game. After a long wait since its initial announcement in 2022, the upcoming title now has a name: Star Wars: Zero Company. Developed by Bit Reactor, a studio made up of veterans behind classic strategy titles like XCOM and Civilization, the game is being created in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Zero Company is set to offer a different kind of experience than what fans may be used to from past Star Wars games. Rather than a fast-paced action-adventure or open-world RPG, this is a single-player turn-based tactics game. Players will be focused on precision and strategic squad management. The game is still in development, but excitement is already building ahead of its first official reveal at Star Wars Celebration Japan on April 19, 2025.
Strategy Comes to a Galaxy Far, Far Away
Set during the Clone Wars, Zero Company places players in command of an elite squad consisting of a Jedi Knight, a Mandalorian mercenary, a clone trooper leader, and a tactical droid. Players will navigate grid-based battlefields on iconic Star Wars planets like Kamino, Geonosis, and Mandalore. Each character has unique abilities that can be combined in powerful ways like chaining a Jedi Force Push with a Mandalorian sniper shot to eliminate distant enemies.
The developers are promising deep tactical gameplay, with features such as:
- Cover systems and terrain advantages
- Ability synergy between squad members
- Morale-based mechanics that influence performance
- Customizable gear and skill trees
- Environmental interaction and consequential decisions that ripple across missions
It’s a step toward more thoughtful and methodical gameplay in a franchise traditionally known for action-heavy titles. However, when there have been strategy games in the Star Wars universe, they have been met with acclaim.
Who’s Behind the Game?
Star Wars: Zero Company is being brought to life by two studios with plenty of talent and Star Wars experience. Bit Reactor leads the design and tactics side, bringing its deep strategy roots from games like XCOM. Meanwhile, Respawn Entertainment, the company famous for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Apex Legends, is contributing its storytelling and world-building expertise. Combined with Lucasfilm Games, the collaboration is set to deliver a game that not only plays well but feels deeply embedded in the Star Wars galaxy.
This title is part of a trio of Star Wars projects Respawn revealed back in 2022. The first was Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which launched in 2023. The third game remains unnamed but is described as an all-new first-person shooter.
First Look at Star Wars: Zero Company Celebration Japan
The first real glimpse at Star Wars: Zero Company will take place at Star Wars Celebration Japan, held on April 19, 2025. The reveal event is scheduled for 4:30 pm JST (8:30 am in the UK) at the Galaxy Stage. While the full panel likely won’t be live-streamed, fans can expect updates and highlights through Star Wars’ official online channels.
The reveal promises to showcase gameplay footage, concept art, and behind-the-scenes developer insight. With fan anticipation already heating up online, the event could mark a landmark point for Star Wars games, especially in the strategy genre.
Lightsabers, Lore, and Community Buzz
While tactics take center stage, lightsaber combat still plays a role in Zero Company, especially through the Jedi character. Players can customize their lightsaber’s hilt, color, and effects. Special Kyber Crystals found during side missions will unlock new saber abilities and add more layers to the game’s mechanics.
As with most major Star Wars releases, fans are diving into collectibles and memorabilia. Replica lightsabers inspired by the game’s characters are already being buzzed about online, with interest in neopixel sabers (the closest we will ever get to owning a real saber) on the rise.
Comparisons to beloved titles like Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics suggest high hopes from strategy lovers and Star Wars devotees alike.
Looking Ahead
With Zero Company, Star Wars is taking a bold step into territory it’s only lightly touched before. It is easy to see the potential. The fusion of tactical gameplay and beloved characters creates a strong foundation for what could be one of the most memorable strategy games in years. And with a dream team of developers behind it, expectations are sky high.
2025 looks like a busy year for Star Wars fans, from TV shows like The Acolyte and Andor Season 2 to new LEGO sets and Galaxy’s Edge expansions. In the middle of it all, Star Wars: Zero Company might just steal the spotlight.
