Northrop Grumman Unveils Its New Enhanced Production and Integration Centre (EPIC)

The growing need for active developments in the air and missile defence of the US Army is now fuelling the new expansion at Northrop Grumman. This expansion adds more working areas to the Enhanced Production and Integration Centre (EPIC) at the Alabama-based aerospace and defence firm.

The official announcement of this expansion reveals that the new working area will serve the US Army’s new plans for air defence. These new plans exist under the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS), which will see some advancements over the coming years.

The new working area at the Northrop Grumman Alabama site will step up the production capacity for the now-ready IBCS command and control system. According to the aerospace and defence firm, this increase will be up to “96 Engagement Operation Centres, 96 Integrated Collaborative Environments and 192 Integrated Fire Control Network relays each year.“

Making up this new expansion is 129,500 square feet of flexible manufacturing space, totalling 175,500 square feet of production space. The office space on the Northrop Grumman Enhanced Production and Integration Centre (EPIC) site amounts to 35,000 square feet.

While this expansion aims to boost the production of air and defence systems for the US Army, it will also provide jobs for Alabama locals. With more working space and more hands on deck, production will certainly see an increase, hence meeting the needs of the US Army.

More Details On the Northrop Grumman EPIC Expansion

Northrop Grumman points out that for this expansion, they invested over $20 million to ensure their production site accommodates growing demand. This expansion will now serve the US Army as it develops its air and defence system.

Kenn Todorov, the vice president and general manager at Northrop Grumman, had a few things to say about this expansion. Also, he says that his firm’s “investment in American manufacturing with this new facility enables us to continue supporting critical modernisation efforts such as producing capabilities like IBCS at scale and speed.”

Finally, he adds that the investment in expanding their production site in Alabama will not only be of benefit to his firm but also ensure that “America leads the world in military strength.” Over the coming months, we will get to see how this production site expansion will play out to benefit the US Army.
