ARX Robotics Prepares To Build Battlefield Drones In Britain

The battlefield drones from ARX Robotics are preparing to be built in Britain for the first time since its launch. Development of these drones, the Gereon UGV, have been solely in Germany but are now moving over to a new facility in the southwest region of England.

The UK is now turning to the use of robots and AI systems in warfare. For this, they rely on the technology of military hardware firms or governmental agencies for use during an event of war.

One of the firms that has been developing technology for use in the military across Europe is ARX Robotics. A new update reveals that the firm responsible for the development of the Gereon UGV is now moving some of its operations to Britain.

Some of the uses of the Gereon UGV battlefield drones are reconnaissance, casualty evacuation, and transport during warfare. It can carry loads of 500kg, covering a distance of 40km at a speed of 18mph with an operating time of 72 hours after charging for over 2.5 hours.

Controlling this battlefield drone will be military personnel who will use a tablet with the Mithra OS, which features AI integrations. Currently, NATO, the German military, and also in Ukraine are actively putting this drone to use.

As ARX Robotics moves to the UK it hopes to create over 90 jobs for locals while producing 1800 Gereon UGV drones per year. Work on the new site in south-west England will also focus on the upgrading of existing armoured vehicles, adding features that will make them remotely controllable.

ARX Robotics will spend a total of £45 million as it moves some of its operations over to Britain. The UK Army will also integrate this battlefield drone into its military operations.

In an interview, Lord Richard Dannatt, the former head of the British Army asked a very important question that can help us understand the role of robots in the army. He ask,s “Why send a man where a machine can go?”

Over the years robots have developed to a point where they can carry out complicated tasks with little to no human intervention. Regarding this, Lord Richard Dannatt says “The Army is always looking at technology to improve things.”

Some operations in the British Army are now being carried out by robots designed to perform these actions. This way human personnel in the army can stay safe while the robots embark on various difficult and dangerous tasks.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is also investing in the robotics industry to develop technology that will be helpful on the battlefield. ARX Robotics Gereon UGV battlefield drone is one of such robots that can help the British Army step up its game.
