NASA’s 2025 Digital Launch: 10 Webby Nods For Out-Of-This-World Content

This year’s coveted Webby Awards will be taking place this month, with NASA tipped for glory after receiving 10 nominations. Key categories including social media, AI, and more and NASA has been recognised in these fields due to their online developments piquing the interest of the awards panel. NASA says their legal obligation to spread the news regarding their outer-space work is one of the significant reasons why they’ve secured a raft of nominations.

Deputy Associate Administrator for Communications, Michelle Jones, said: “The 2025 Webby nominations demonstrate NASA’s dedication to sharing the wonders of space through digital platforms. We believe in the power of digital storytelling to inspire the next generation of explorers.”

What Are The Webby Awards?

Incepted in 1996 by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the awards are bestowed upon those who make advancements in internet-based content. This includes websites, social media feeds, advertising, video content and more. Overall, the award is given to nominees who have excelled in the digital arts.

At each annual event, two awards are presented for each category: the Webby Award and the Webby People’s Voice Award. NASA said: “In the spirit of the open web, the Webby People’s Voice is chosen by the voting public. [The Webby Awards] garners millions of votes from all over the world.” On 22 April, the Webby Award winners will be notified. Thereafter, they will be given their award at a ceremony in New York on 12 May.

Who Will Win: NASA’s Involvement & Categories Up For Grabs

By and large, part of NASA’s role in the space industry is showcasing and educating the public on its efforts and space in general. Over this millennium and with the development of social media, the US space agency’s digital footprint has grown exponentially. They have actively deployed social media to effectively communicate and educate via engaging content. These moves have resulted in NASA receiving 10 nominations across 4 categories:

  • AI, Immersive & Games
  • Social
  • Video & Film
  • Website & Mobile Sites

Indeed, the space agency will be eagerly awaiting 22 April to see if they will take their place on the Webby podium.
