Boeing Will Continue Working On The US Army Air Defence System

Tensions among various countries worldwide are on the rise, and Boeing is tasked with developing new technology for the US Army defence system. This latest development role for Boeing will fall under the US Army’s Indirect Fires Protection Capability (IFPC) Increment 2 program.

The US Army Defence System Might Use Boeing Technology

Boeing has announced that it will join the US Army’s Indirect Fires Protection Capability (IFPC) Increment 2 program. The program aims to develop a new medium-range missile interceptor that will help defend against airstrikes of various kinds.

The aerial defence system to be developed under this program will sit between the short-range and long-range aerial defence systems that are already in use. Some systems that fall into this category are the MSHORAD and Patriot systems in use by the US Army.

This new technology will engage threats that fall beneath the requirements of long-range systems and are above the abilities of short-range systems. With this system, the US Army will be able to tackle any aerial threat, regardless of its make or flight coverage.

Under the IFPC Increment 2 program, Boeing will develop a missile defence system that will defend against aerial attacks from cruise missiles, unmanned aerial systems, and other low-flying threats. Boeing says that the system that they are developing uses the Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA).

This will help with fast integration and deployment of software and hardware updates to tackle evolving threats. Some areas that this system pays attention to are adaptability, cost-efficiency, and sustainability.

Boeing Hopes To Improve The US Army Defence System

Jim Leary, the executive director of Business Development for Precision Engagement Systems at Boeing, had a few things to share regarding the firm’s work on the IFPC Increment 2 program. He expresses confidence in Boeing’s knowledge of what the US Army needs and states Boeing’s goal regarding this program.

In his words, Boeing understands “warfighter needs and the dynamic environments soldiers operate in.” He says that the firm’s “goal is to keep them safe with an innovative, affordable offering that leverages our industry-leading missile expertise.”
Speaking on the system that Boeing is developing he says that the “ design offers increased magazine depth with a missile that provides enhanced speed to target, greater range and manoeuvrability for sustained engagement against an evolving threat.” Once the system is ready the US Army will put it to use in the nation’s air defence system.
