Unexpected Northern Lights Lit Up The US Skies: What’s Unusual About It? [PHOTOS]

On the night of 25th into 26th March, skywatchers across the United States were treated to an unexpected and breathtaking display of the Northern Lights. Several users shared their vision of the event on social media.

Where Did The Northern Lights Appear?

The Northern Lights are typically confined to high-latitude regions like Alaska and Canada. However, this time, the aurora made a rare appearance much farther south. The red, blue, and green hues illuminated skies over states such as Virginia, Missouri, and even New Mexico.

Why Was This Aurora So Unusual?

While auroras are a common sight near the Arctic Circle, their presence this far south is a rarity. The recent aurora happened because a strong burst of energy from the Sun sent charged particles toward Earth. When these particles hit Earth’s magnetic field, they created the colorful lights in the sky. This solar event made the aurora brighter and spread it farther than usual.
