Figure, an AI robotics company has now taken the internet by storm after unveiling their human-like robot, Helix. This robot is designed to help out around the house as it comes with advanced features to make it more home-friendly.

By putting together their knowledge of AI and robotics, Figure has been able to develop Helix. Future calls this robot “a generalist Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model” as it uses sight, language understanding, and learned controls to perform tasks.

This robot can perform tasks like picking up objects, collaborate with other robots to perform tasks faster, and has good control of its upper body. To achieve this control, Future points out that “Helix coordinates a 35-DoF action space at 200Hz.”

By doing this, the robot can control “everything from individual finger movements to end-effector trajectories, head gaze, and torso posture.” Future claims that their VLA model is the first of its kind. Notably, no other VLA system before it “has demonstrated this degree of real-time coordination while maintaining the ability to generalize across tasks and objects.”

By using AI, this robot can reason and come to conclusions on how to perform certain tasks. To achieve this Future uses what it calls a “System 1, System 2” approach.

Additionally, System 2 is trained to think slowly about its task at hand. To compare, System 1 thinks faster and is essential for the execution of actions. This approach helps the robot to accomplish its goals or tasks quickly and in an orderly fashion.

Real-World Uses Of The Helix Robot

As the robotic industry continues to grow, we get to see a ton of robots with varying functions and target markets. Most robots rolling out are for industrial usage, as they help boost production capacity.
