Airbus Hires Goldman Sachs to Advise on SpaceX Rival
5th Feb 2025
Airbus has hired Goldman Sachs Group to advise on a European space and satellite company, thought to be a direct rival to Elon Musk’s SpaceX, according to Bloomberg News.
It is thought that discussions are in an early stage to create a new company, supported by Airbus as well as other organisations including the French aerospace company Thales and Italy’s Leonardo (NASDAQ:DRS). We don’t know exactly what the range of services will be, but modestly-costed launches seem to be top of the agenda.
The project has been dubbed Project Bromo, some of the sources said, and Thales is speaking with advisers according to Bloomberg News. The companies already work together and make numerous products for satellites and space telecommunications, but some have already questioned whether this project may prove too much of a challenge, with unifying European companies being notoriously difficult, even for the space exploration cause.
