Scandinavian Airlines to Offer Free Starlink Wi-Fi Across Fleet by 2025
29th Jan 2025
Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has chosen to engage SpaceX and Starlink to provide their in-flight connectivity services. The company is introducing a free and high-speed Wi-Fi service and will rely on Starlink for the service. It was announced on January 27th that the company will begin a phased rollout, and intends to have its entire fleet operational with the Starlink connection by the end of 2025.
The airline said that the passengers on their planes will now be able to enjoy connectivity throughout the flight, and in all travel classes, for free. Many companies that offer alternative IFC services have found speeds and connectivity to be unreliable, and the airline called this a “significant improvement” on the current systems and alternatives used.
“We’re putting an end to frustrating interruptions and ushering in a new era of connectivity. Whether flying over the Atlantic or the North Sea, our passengers can now count on a connection that is as stable and seamless as it is fast. This is about giving our customers the best and ensuring SAS remains synonymous with excellence,” Paul Verhagen, chief commercial officer of the airline explained in a statement.
SAS is not the first airline to switch to the service. Air France has already started to adopt Starlink IFC along with airBaltic who have already successfully installed the systems.
