Meteor’s Green Light Origin
The American Meteor Society (AMS) has only received two reports so far — one from the Dominican Republic and one from Puerto Rico.
The reports mention that the fireball showed shades of purple, likely caused by potassium in the object.
When copper or compounds like copper chloride or copper sulfate are heated to high temperatures, they give off a green light.
This happens because the heat excites the copper atoms, and as they cool down, they release energy as green light.
