Humans vs. Humanoids: Robots Are Running a 13-Mile Race Against Humans in China

What will win in a race between Humanoid Robots and humans? China is preparing to answer this question as it readies a race between robots and over 12,000 human racers.

Putting Humans Against Humanoid Robots In A 13-mile Race

In a bid to step up its stand in the global artificial intelligence and robotics industry, China is preparing for a one-of-a-kind race. This race will bring together robotic companies worldwide to show off the abilities of their inventions in a 13-mile race against humans.

For this race, China has set various requirements for the humanoid robots that will participate in this racing event. The Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area says that the key requirement for this race is that the robots have a human-like appearance.

For their locomotion, these robots should not possess wheels, instead, they should have mechanical structures for movement. This locomotive system should enable running, and walking, with two legs like a human would.

The motion of these robots should be controlled either remotely or autonomously. As for the height requirement, these humanoid robots should be between 1.6 feet and 6.5 feet to participate.

During the race, partaking companies will be able to change the humanoid robot’s batteries if need be. The first three runners at the end of the 13-mile race will receive prizes for their efforts.

Humanoid Robots To Improve Industry Performance

This coming racing event between humanoid robots and humans isn’t the first of its kind. In Beijing last year, Tiangong, a humanoid robot, participated in a similar race towards the finish line as a closing pacer.

A similar event took place in China, where another humanoid robot joined a racing event towards the end of the event. This time around the humanoid robot joined the race, encouraging runners to keep pushing to the finish line.

Aside from racing events, China has found various uses for humanoid robots of different kinds. These robots will be put to use in the industrial activities of various large firms to help boost the manufacturing process.

The continuous growth of the Chinese robotics industry shows that the region is investing in a new form of labour. Over the coming years, we expect to see more humanoid robots in the Chinese industrial scene.
