Terrifying Satellite Footage Reveals California Wildfires Spreading At Alarming Speed
9th Jan 2025A timelapse satellite video released by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere captured the dramatic spread of California wildfires. The footage provides a sobering perspective on how quickly the flames intensified over two days under strong winds.
Strong Winds Fueling The Fire
The satellite video on X offers a bird’s-eye view of the Palisades Fire erupting Tuesday morning along the Los Angeles County coastline. Fueled by winds reaching 40 mph and beyond, the flames rapidly advanced and expanded throughout the day, forcing thousands of people to evacuate.
Another wildfire, the Eaton Fire, broke out Tuesday night in the hills above Altadena, a northern Los Angeles County community, as seen in the video below. According to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials, the blaze has claimed at least five lives and resulted in several serious injuries.
Fire Spreads Further
By Wednesday afternoon, both fires had burned through thousands of acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Another satellite timelapse shared overnight reveals the fires continuing to spread further.
