Russia Could Trade Satellite Technology for North Korean Troops, Blinken Warns

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has revealed that Russia may offer advanced satellite technology to North Korea in exchange for deploying troops to support its war in Ukraine. The alarming claim was made during a press conference in Seoul on Monday, highlighting growing military and technological ties between Moscow and Pyongyang.

North Korea’s Struggle with Space Ambitions

North Korea has faced numerous setbacks in its satellite launch program, with leader Kim Jong Un repeatedly attempting and often failing to send satellites into orbit. In November 2023, the country announced the successful launch of a military reconnaissance satellite. 

However, earlier attempts, including a rocket explosion during a launch in May 2023, underscored persistent challenges. Reports from South Korea suggested that Russian technicians have been actively involved in guiding North Korea’s space program, signaling deepening cooperation.

A fully operational satellite system would significantly enhance North Korea’s ability to identify potential missile targets and execute preemptive strikes.
