Game-Changing Drone Defence: British Army Tests Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon

After a long development period, the Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) has finally been tested in combat training by British soldiers. This weapon is specifically designed to detect, track, and take down drones in flight within a 1km radius, whether on land or at sea.

Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) Ready For Use In Military Defence

The long-awaited Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) drone defence system is now ready for use by the British military. However, some might wonder how this system, produced by Thales UK, differs from other defence systems already in use.

Unlike other defence systems designed to detect and neutralize aerial threats, the Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) doesn’t use missiles. It also stands out in comparison with the DragonFire (a Laser Directed Energy Weapon) that is currently in use by the British military.

The Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) uses a high radio frequency tuned to disrupt drone mid-flight. This frequency disrupts the drone’s critical electronic components necessary for its flight and attack system operation.

Once the high radio frequency from the Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) hits a drone in flight, it shuts it down. This weapon will be added to the British military’s arsenal for use on drone attacks on land and at sea.

During the test firing of this weapon, the British military was able to target and engage Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS). The military will continue to test this weapon to see its possible usage in various scenes and environments.

The Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) Test Produces Satisfactory Results

Following the successful testing of the Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW), lots of military personnel have given it a nod of approval. Aside from military personnel, the Managing Director of Thales UK was also pleased with the performance of the weapon.

Maria Eagle MP, the Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry, said that the firing of this weapon is “another step forward for a potentially game-changing sovereign weapon for the UK.” She goes on to express her joy in seeing “defence experts and industry working collaboratively to put cutting-edge equipment in the hands” of the British military.

Nigel MacVean, the Managing Director of Thales UK also expressed his satisfaction with the successful testing of the Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW). He adds that “Thales has been at the forefront of this pioneering technology for over 40 years and our continued research and development in this sector, along with our partners in Government, paves the way for a strong future in this field.”

Another very impressive aspect of this new weapon is its operational cost. Operating the Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW) costs just 10p per shot, making it very cost-effective in its operations.
