Newly Developed Chinese Drone Can Now Emit Metal-Cutting Laser Beams
19th Dec 2024Over the past few years, drones have become more prevalent in various industries like entertainment, research, and security, but a new Chinese drone is currently shaking the internet. This new drone developed by Crazy Li, a Chinese scientist and laser expert, is said to be able to emit laser beams capable of cutting metal.
Weaponizing Drones With Powerful Lasers
Li Xiao, popularly known as Crazy Li, is a Chinese scientist who headed the development of a new drone with a rather concerning ability for China. This drone was developed with a team from the National University of Defence Technology of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
By developing drones that can emit powerful laser beams, Li Xiao and his team of scientists went against conventional knowledge of how laser projection works. Most people understand that a high-powered laser can not be mounted on a small flying platform like a drone.
Also, it is conventional knowledge that a small drone doesn’t have the power to operate a high-powered laser. Regardless of these limitations to Li’s plan of mounting a high-powered laser on a small drone, he and his team successfully developed their dream weapon.
This Chinese laser-firing drone relies on a ground-mounted laser-emitting device connected to the aerial drone, which acts as a laser deflector. Once the ground-mounted laser emitting device shoots the laser, the drone deflects the laser (using ultra-precise elevation servo mechanisms and azimuth turntables connected to high-performance reflective mirrors) to its targets.
By following this process, the Chinese drone can emit 30kW laser beams capable of cutting metal. This Chinese drone uses vibration isolation technology to control the vibrations emitted during laser firing.
Possible Usage Of The Chinese Laser-Emitting Drone
The new Chinese drone developed by Crazy Li and his team has a specific use. This drone will be used for China’s military efforts in aerial space.
A handful of these newly developed drones can detect targets from a distance and engage in an attack. Armed with their powerful lasers, these drones can neutralize targets, even those behind metal shelters.
The control of these drones might also be done remotely without the need for on-ground personnel to mount the drone. We expect to see China put this new drone to use in the coming months, hence giving more insight into the usage of the drone.
