What’s So Special About The Cold Moon?

This year, the Cold Moon also appears nearly full on 14 and 16 December. However, its unique position on the horizon makes it particularly special. As the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles previously stated, “the moon will rise and set at its most northerly and southerly positions on the horizon” — a rare phenomenon that happens only once every 18.6 years.

Additionally, it coincides with the peak of the Geminids meteor shower on 13 December.
