Following the official naming of Storm Darragh, the Met Office has been able to identify areas that will be affected by this storm. The areas named to see the direct effects of this coming storm are Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and parts of England.

For these regions, the Met Office has issued Amber weather warnings for both heavy rains and strong winds. The latest info from the Met Office shows that more areas across the UK and Ireland will face strong winds.

For these areas, residents should expect heavy wind bringing spray or large waves, a possible short-term power outage, and disruption to public transportation. Fewer areas across the UK and Ireland will face heavy rainfall, as the Met Office forecasts.

The areas that will face heavy rainfall should expect some flooding and travel disruption. From the forecast, we learn that the rains might kick off with about 20 to 30 mm of rainfall in a few hours in some areas.

Areas to receive heavy rainfall and strong winds should expect the rains and gusts of winds to start today, 5 December. Storm Darragh is expected to stay into the weekends, bringing more heavy rainfall and strong wind.

Stay Safe During Storm Darragh

In the past few weeks, this is the second storm that has been announced to hit the UK. If you live in the UK or Ireland, you’ll need to protect yourself during this coming storm. In order to keep residents of areas where Amber alerts have been issued, the Met Office has released a few safety tips.

Residents of Amber alert heavy rainfall areas should ensure to store valuables up high and turn off gas and electricity in the event of flooding. Those driving should slow down, use main roads, and give a good distance gap between vehicles.

For those who stay in areas to receive strong winds, they should secure loose properties outside their house. In case you’re driving during a wind storm, ensure that you hold the steering wheel firmly, drive slowly, and avoid driving beside or overtaking high-sided vehicles.
