The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and Exolaunch have launched an exciting opportunity to deploy up to two CubeSats (1U-3U size) into space using Exolaunch’s EXOpod system. Under the UNOOSA’s Access to Space for All initiative, selected participants will also benefit from essential technical support during the deployment process.
Collaboration To Increase Space Accessibility
This opportunity builds on the January 2024 agreement between UNOOSA and Exolaunch, which emphasised their shared mission of broadening space access for more countries. The collaboration aims to help nations strengthen their scientific, technological, and legal capabilities by offering hands-on space mission experiences.
Previously, UNOOSA has supported four countries in launching their first satellites. These types of payload hosting and deployment opportunities are key in building national space ecosystems, developing local space agencies, and fostering new laws that support space activities.
Access to Space for All: How To Apply
UNOOSA highlighted on LinkedIn that selected awardees will develop and deploy their CubeSats and receive targeted support on satellite registration, space sustainability, and engagement with national policymakers.
Interested applicants must submit their applications by 31 December 2024, as outlined on UNOOSA’s website.
Exolaunch Company
Aarti Holla Maini, Director of UNOOSA, emphasised the importance of Exolaunch’s contribution to UNOOSA’s Access to Space for All initiative.
“ We’re grateful for Exolaunch’s valuable contribution to UNOOSA’s Access to Space for All initiative and are confident that this will help countries on their space-faring journey,” she said.
Exolaunch, based in Berlin, is a leading provider of satellite deployment technology. With over a decade of experience and hundreds of satellites launched, the company specializes in developing its own industry-leading EXOpod small satellite separation systems.
“Partnering with UNOOSA on the Access to Space for All Initiative marks a significant milestone for Exolaunch,” said Jeanne Allarie, Chief Commercial Officer at Exolaunch. “This collaboration expands global access to space, enabling us to support and empower countries new to space activities.”
