Best Astrophotos Of November: Beaver Full Moon, Northern Lights, and Falcon Launch
4th Dec 2024As December arrived, it promised crisp winter nights perfect for astrophotography. We eagerly await the season’s first breathtaking captures of space. But before we dive into the wonders of winter skies, let’s take a moment to reflect on November’s most stunning space visuals. This article highlights the best astrophotos of the month from our weekly collections.
Saturn And Moon Conjunction
One of the most incredible highlights of November was a beautiful conjunction of the Moon and Saturn on 11 November. Here’s a glorious Moon and ringed Saturn in the background captured by Nashville photographer Rami Ammoun.
November’s Beaver Full Moon
The November Full Moon, also known as the Super Beaver Moon, also took centre stage as one of the month’s primary celestial wonders. This breathtaking image by Katie K. showcases the moon in all its radiant glory, illuminating the night sky with its glow.
SpaceX 400th Successful Falcon Launch
The next astrophoto is truly outstanding and historic. It shows the Falcon 9 launching Dragon to the International Space Station (ISS), completing the 400th successful Falcon launch!
Double Rainbow
Also, during November, a rare natural occurrence appeared in the sky. A double rainbow is such an event when sunlight shines through raindrops in the air, creating two colourful arcs in the sky.
Photographer Dr Andrew Dzambo shared a perfect shot of a rare double rainbow on his X account.
Northern Lights Over Anchorage
Ryan Black shared the image of the aurora seen over Anchorage, Alaska. November offered excellent opportunities to see auroras, particularly in regions close to the Earth’s magnetic poles, such as northern Scandinavia, Canada, Alaska.
Perseus Constellation
Another fascinating object in November was the Perseus constellation. Despite the challenges of wandering clouds, photographer Ireneusz Nowak captured the beauty of this constellation during a brief window of clear skies in the Bieszczady Mountains.
Comet, Venus, And Milky Way Alignment
In this mesmerising shot, photographer Eric Wilkes captured a rare alignment of Comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas, Venus, and the Milky Way.
By the way, the Milky Way is still visible in the night sky in December – even better than in autumn in some regions.
Volcanic Eruption And Aurora Borealis
At the end of November, a major volcanic eruption occurred in Iceland. This astrophoto by Wioleta M. Gorecka captures a once-in-a-lifetime moment of the volcanic eruption with the mesmerizing glow of the Aurora Borealis in the background.
