NASA Astronauts Aboard The ISS Send Heartfelt Thanksgiving Greetings To Earth (Video)
28th Nov 2024The four NASA astronauts who currently live aboard the International Space Station (ISS) recorded a warm video message, sending Thanksgiving greetings to everyone on Earth. NASA shared the video on Wednesday, 27 November, the eve of the holiday.
Nick Hague, Don Pettit, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore took a moment to share their reflections on the significance of Thanksgiving. The crew also revealed their plans for celebrating the holiday with a special meal in orbit.
Thanksgiving Messages From The ISS Crew
Suni Williams began: “Greetings from the International Space Station! Our crew up here just wanted to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and family on Earth, and to everyone supporting us.”
Don Pettit followed, saying: “Thanksgiving is typically a holiday where family and friends get together. Sometimes that can’t happen — to physically be around each other— but in today’s age, you can virtually tie in to your family and friends.”
Cosmic Thanksgiving Meals
Nick Hague dove into the Thanksgiving feast. He opened a box containing the crew’s holiday meal and showed viewers the pouches holding their space-friendly dishes.
“We’ve got Brussels,” Hague began.
“Sardines!” Pettit chimed in jokingly.
Hague continued, “Brussels sprouts, butternut squash, apples with spice, and smoked turkey. It’s going to be delicious.”
Gratitude For Space And Earth
Butch Wilmore reflected on the many things he and his crewmates appreciate during their time in orbit.
“There aren’t many places where you can actually lie on the ceiling, and this is one of them. We’re thankful for zero gravity. It’s fantastic,” the astronaut said.
Also, Wilmore shared his gratitude for “our family, our friends — those who are lifting up prayers for us. We’re also thankful for being part of a spacefaring nation, one that allows us to live free, express what’s on our minds, and enjoy countless other blessings. There’s so much to be thankful for during this season,” he summed up the Thanksgiving greetings.
