Ghosts, Bats, and NASA Pumpkin: See How Space Celebrates Halloween 2024

While you are trying your best to find perfect Halloween costume, space has already pulled off some spectacular looks! Dive into eerie (and fun) space photos, featuring jack-o-lantern suns, cosmic ghosts, and nebulae that look like bats and mysterious figures. Perfect for a spine-chilling cosmic journey!

NASA Pumpkins celebrate cosmic Halloween

This year, NASA shared the creative pumpkins curved by agency employees.

These funny crafts feature the iconic ‘meatball’ logo and even the James Webb Telescope.

Jack-o-Lantern Sun

Okey, now we have one reason to be afraid of sun’s activity!

The image was captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, or SDO, in 2014. Regions on the sun combined to resemble a jack-o-lantern’s face.

Ghosts in space?

The Universe is so big and spooky that it even may hide ghosts! Just kidding!

This black-and-while image of aurora borealis has a haunting quality, but it could use a splash of color to truly bring it to life.

Happy ghosts or just clouds?

Let’s be honest, those white twisted clouds always look like something out of this world. Well, why not play with imagination and pretend these are happy ghosts who came to visit Earth for Halloween?

Spooky Space Images From the UK Space Agency To Celebrate Halloween

“This frightful day may only come around once a year, but in some parts of the cosmos, it’s always spooky season,” the UK Space Agency reminds, and it’s hard to disagree!

One of the most recognised formations in space, Pillars of Creation, perfectly fits Halloween days.

First photographed by the Hubble Space Telescope, it shows dust in the Eagle Nebula, in the Serpens constellation, some 6,500–7,000 light-years from Earth. Some say it’s the hand of God; others believe it’s an angel. We’d say, it’s a great reminder that our Universe is full of beauty and mysteries.

Batman, is it you?

UKSA also shared this iconic image of LDN 43 nebula that’s often called the Cosmic Bat. “Located 1,400 light-years away, it’s a stellar nursery where new stars are being born,” UKSA writes in the X post.

The nebula is dark enough to block background stars and light from the nearby reflection nebula, LBN 7.

Human-like creature seen in space

“The ghoulish-looking Cone Nebula is part of the star-forming region NGC 2264,” UKSA follows on X. “It resides 2,500 light-years away in the constellation of Monoceros”.

The nebula looks like a figure standing back to the camera or getting out of the water. Magical!

An astronaut with a pumpkin head will fly to space?

What’s going on? Oh, no worries, it’s just another Halloween-themed photo from the UK’s National Space Centre.
