Would You Live In Space? Vast’s New Haven-1 Space Station Makes It Look Like ‘Wow’
15th Oct 2024Vast Space, a private space company, has revealed the interior design for Haven-1, a revolutionary commercial space station set to redefine comfort in space. This ambitious project aims to create a new standard for living and working in microgravity, blending cutting-edge technology with the well-being of astronauts. The company also announced its plans for the Haven-1 launch.
Vast Unveils the Haven-1 Space Station And Prepares For 2025 Launch
Vast Space has released a video demonstrating the future design for Haven-1 – which looks more like a luxury hotel rather than orbital station. The company targets to launch the station in 2025, offering 30-day orbital stays for both astronauts and civilians.
The company announced its plans to launch the station aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. In case of success, it will make a revolution in the commercialisation of space travel and research.
The company, founded by Jed McCaleb in 2021, aims to redefine humanity’s access to space by developing artificial gravity modules and fully operational space stations capable of housing astronauts for extended periods.
In the latest presentation video, Vast showcased the design and development progress of their in-orbit space stations, highlighting the importance of artificial gravity for long-term space habitation. The modular designs, featuring both research and living spaces, are intended to support a variety of missions, including scientific experiments, commercial ventures, and government partnerships.
One of the most notable aspects of Vast’s approach is its focus on scalability and adaptability. The space station modules can be linked together, creating larger, expandable habitats that can accommodate growing human presence in space. This flexibility allows Vast to provide solutions tailored to the evolving needs of space exploration, from low-Earth orbit research to deep-space missions.
Vast’s Vision for Life in Space
Guided by visionary designer Peter Russell-Clarke, and supported by veteran NASA astronaut Andrew Feustel, Haven-1 is poised to offer an unparalleled experience in space. The team’s dedication to astronaut well-being is clear, from the sleep system to the fitness equipment, ensuring that astronauts can thrive both physically and mentally in space.
Chief Design and Marketing Officer Hillary Coe emphasized the importance of a “human-first” design approach, stating, “We have big ambitions to create a future where everyone is living and thriving on Earth and in space. This requires a shift in how we approach design for all backgrounds and comfort levels.”
