See Early Photos Of The Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS Taken By Amateur Astronomers
27th Sep 2024For the first time in 80,000 years, a ‘comet of the century’ Tsuchinshan-ATLAS could be seen with the naked eye. While the peak in brightness is expected on 27 September, when it reaches perihelion, its closest point to the sun, astronomers and astrophotographers have already started to hunt the comet. We’ve gathered some of the best photos of the comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS so far.

Comet C/2023 A3 was discovered on 9 January 2023. Skywatchers in the Northern Hemisphere, including the United Kingdom, will have a chance to glimpse the comet C/2023 A3 a few degrees above the east-southeast horizon about 30 minutes before sunrise between Friday, 27th September and Wednesday, 2nd October.
Other opportunities to view the comet include Sunday, 29 September and Monday, 30 September, when C/2023 A3 will be joined by a delicate waning crescent moon.

Marina Prol shared her photo with caption: “This morning, an hour before sunrise, I had my first view (with binoculars) and first photos of the comet that is currently visiting us. It looks quite promising, we will see how it fares in its passage across the Sun.
