French Rocket Company Sirius Space Targets Launches From Australia in 2026
19th Sep 2024Sirius Space Services has signed an agreement with Equatorial Launch Australia (ELA) and will utilise the launch facility at Arnhem Space Centre, Nhulunbuy, in Arnhem Land, Australia.
Sirius Space was first founded in 2020. THe company is working on a range of rockets to deliver payloads into low earth orbit. Their highest payload capacity is slated to be 1,100KG to low Earth orbit.
Sirius 13 and Sirius 15 rockets are both made to be reusable (at least, in part).
French rockets to launch from Arnhem Space Centre starting in 2026
On 18th September, the company announced via a press release that it completed the agreement with Australia’s first commercial launch centre. They will occupy the Launch Complex Number 3 which has been nicknamed “Le Mans” by the company.
The company said that the flexibility to access numerous orbital inclinations was one of the reasons for selecting this space. Le Mans has not begun its construction yet. The company is aiming to complete it by the second half of 2025. Sirius 1 will launch in 2026 before Sirius 13 and 15 both debut from the facility in 2027, if Sirius Space manages to hit its targets.
“I’m delighted and excited to announce this contract with Sirius Space Services today,” explained ELA’s Group CEO Michael Jones.
“Sirius will become the second resident launcher at the Arnhem Space Centre which means they will leverage ELA’s advanced commercial spaceport concept, taking advantage of our comprehensive suite of launch solutions, innovative commercial offering and the best customer service and support to increase efficiency, safety, mission assuredness and commercial benefit to Sirius”.
The company is also utilising Guiana Space Centre and Sirius Space Services aims to launch up to 18 missions per year, eventually.
