Space Forge Moves into Florida and Signs on New President
16th Sep 2024Cardiff-based space manufacturer Space Forge is entering the U.S. market. The company is opening a new office near Kennedy Space Center in Florida. In particular, according to a press release, the move “underscores Space Forge Inc.’s commitment to revolutionizing the U.S. semiconductor industry and solidifying its role in the national semiconductor supply chain.”
The addition of the U.S. site targets the country’s space and semi-conductor markets. Moreover, the Florida location was selected with the area’s skilled workforce in mind.

The firm is welcoming aerospace industry veteran Michelle Flemming as its newly appointed president. Along with cutting-edge project management under her belt, the company notes that her “extensive client list includes US Space Force, NASA, Collins Aerospace, JAXA, JPL, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, and many more.”
From the Space Forge press release:
“Our new home on Florida’s Space Coast is a big step forward for Space Forge Inc.,” said Michelle Flemming, President of Space Forge Inc. “Joining the Space Florida community opens up fantastic opportunities for us. We’re eager to play a key role in advancing the U.S. semiconductor industry, especially in line with the CHIPS and Science Act. By using space as a unique lab, we aim to produce top-quality semiconductor materials that will significantly benefit U.S. defense, telecommunications, automotive, and other critical infrastructure industries.”
“We are pleased to welcome UK-based Space Forge Inc. to our community of growing aerospace businesses. Their innovative work will deliver new capabilities for future semiconductor and related manufacturing companies,” stated Lynda Weatherman, President and CEO, Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast. “Their selection of Florida’s Space Coast further enhances our region’s continued leadership in aerospace and high-tech manufacturing capabilities.”
“Florida truly is where new ideas take off and we’re thrilled to welcome Space Forge to Florida’s growing aerospace community,” said Rob Long, president and CEO of Space Florida. “Their decision to expand operations here is a testament to the thriving ecosystem of talent, resources, and opportunities in the Sunshine State. We look forward to seeing Space Forge’s continued growth and impact on the semiconductor industry.”
In alignment with this vision, Space Forge Inc. is actively recruiting for the role of ‘Head of Semiconductors’ in the U.S. This key position will be instrumental in advancing the company’s mission to support the CHIPS Act and enhance the domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity.
A recent Semiconductor Industry Association study projects that the U.S. domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity will triple from 2022 to 2032, reflecting a 203% growth—the largest projected percentage increase in the world during this period. Space Forge Inc. is focused on above shore manufacturing for onshore needs; aiming to be at the forefront of this growth by using space-grown semiconductor crystals as foundational materials for U.S. semiconductor substrate manufacturing operation, thereby addressing national priorities and boosting the U.S. economy.
