Space Movies Streaming on Netflix in September 2024

Netflix offers a lot of good and mediocre movies to watch in September, but this time, we recommend the following films.

Apollo 13: Survival

The most dramatic and heart-breaking stories originate from real life. That’s the case with the new Netflix documentary ‘Apollo 13: Survival’ that tells an iconic space story.

The path to the Moon landing wasn’t easy and had it price. In April 1970, NASA faced the greatest crisis in its history as three astronauts halfway to the moon on a spacecraft that had suffered a catastrophic explosion.

The movie will include original footage and interviews. “This documentary tells the nail-biting story of Apollo 13 and the struggle to bring the astronauts safely home,” according to the Netflix’s brief synopsis.

The movie premiers on 5th September.

Uglies

It’s a new sci-fi movie that looks like the Black Mirror series.

The story follows a futuristic dystopia with enforced beauty standards, where appearance is everything. Tally, the main character portrayed by Joey King, is eager to join the rest of society. But when a friend runs away, Tally embarks on a journey to save her that upends everything she thought she wanted.

The new Netflix sci-fi film is based on is based on the 2005 book Uglies written by Scott Westerfeld. While the movie is not focused on space exploration, it shows how dangerous beauty standards and expectations in society (especially the one that values social media content more than real-life beauty).

The movie premiers on 13th September.

The Adam Project

This Netflix movie is not new but it still can be recommended for watching in case you haven’t seen it yet.

All-beloved Ryan Raynold plays a man who returns to past and meets a younger self. Their mission is to… save the future. Well, the plot is not new and you will hardly see some mind-blowing twists. However, it’s a good popcorn movie for one night, with good jokes and visuals.

And, by the way, the movie also features Zoe Saldana, Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner – so you have four good reasons to watch it.

The Midnight Sky

The Midnight Sky film follows Augustine, a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe. The events take place in a post-apocalyptic world.

The movie is slow but maintains the tension. George Clooney’s play is excellent here, but don’t expect lots of events and agile scenes.

Sci-fi Movies Streaming on Apple TV and Amazon Video in September 2024

The Blue Rose

The Blue Rose is a 2023 retro sci-fi noir movie that tells a story about two rookie detectives as set out to solve a homicide, only to find themselves in an alternate reality made up of their worst nightmares.

Despite the intriguing combination of sci-fi and detective genres, the movie has received low ranting – only 3.9 on IMDb.

You can still give it a chance by watching The Blue Rose on Apple TV, Amazon Video, or Microsoft Store.

Fortitude

Fortitude is a new AppleTV documentary that explores the people, challenges, and potential of the growing space industry.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Torsten Hoffmann (CRYPTOPIA), the documentary shows how a few powerful individuals and companies are shaping a trillion-dollar space industry, blending dreams of exploration with cutting-edge technology and business opportunities. Hoffmann interviews key figures like astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, UN policymakers, venture capitalists, and space startups such as Planet Labs and Astroscale.

The film also questions the sustainability of ambitious space projects and the motivations behind them.
