Jason Kim Named as CEO of Firefly Aerospace
31st Aug 2024Jason Kim has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Firefly Aerospace and will start his role with the space transportation company on 1st October. He brings over two decades of aerospace and defense experience to the role. In July, Bill Weber left the company as the CEO following allegations of misconduct, and Peter Schumacher temporarily led the company.
New appointment
Before joining Firefly Aersospace he worked at Millennium Space Systems and has also worked with Raytheon Intelligence & Space, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, and the U.S. Air Force.
“Jason Kim’s deep industry expertise, coupled with his proven ability to lead high-performing teams and execute on strategic growth initiatives, makes him the ideal leader for Firefly Aerospace,” said Kirk Konert, Chairman of the Board at Firefly. He went on to explain his ideas for the future “We are confident that under his leadership, Firefly will continue to achieve major milestones across our launch, lunar, and on-orbit programs.”
Jason Kim will now take on more than 700 employees and a team with contracts with NASA and Lockheed Martin, among others. Their Blue Ghost project plans to land the Moon, and they also plan to orbit their Elytra vehicle this year.
Kim spoke about his appointment:
“I have long admired Firefly’s relentless drive and innovative spirit, particularly during our collaboration on the VICTUS NOX mission for the U.S. Space Force,” he went on to say that: “I am honored to join this unstoppable team and look forward to building on Firefly’s success and leading the company into a new era of category-defining achievements in the industry.”
Kim is a graduate of U.S. Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and he has also gone on to receive a Master of Science and a separate Master of Business Administration. His impressive experience and qualification will bring a lot to Firefly in a busy time.
Firefly Aerospace is based in Texas and provides launch vehicles as well as orbital vehicles and even lunar explorers. With some crucial upcoming launches, the new CEO will likely be extremely busy!
