Amazon’s Project Kuiper Expects To Ship The First Satellites This Summer

This April, Project Kuiper opened a satellite facility in Kirkland, Washington. The new facility will accelerate Amazon’s satellite production. They are planning to ship their first completed production satellites this year.

What Is Amazon’s Project Kuiper?

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s initiative to deploy a large satellite constellation in low Earth orbit (LEO) to provide fast, affordable broadband internet connectivity worldwide. Project Kuiper’s initial low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation design includes over 3,000 satellites.

Amazon began research and development on Project Kuiper in 2018. In July 2020, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted Amazon a license to deploy and operate Project Kuiper satellites.

First Prototype Satellites

Amazon launched the first two prototype satellites on 6th October, 2023. The mission was successful and they intend to begin deploying satellite constellation this year and offering service to customers next year. The first full-scale Kuiper mission for Q4 is targeted aboard an Atlas V rocket from ULA.
