What Is Amazon’s Project Kuiper?
Project Kuiper is Amazon’s initiative to deploy a large satellite constellation in low Earth orbit (LEO) to provide fast, affordable broadband internet connectivity worldwide. Project Kuiper’s initial low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation design includes over 3,000 satellites.
Amazon began research and development on Project Kuiper in 2018. In July 2020, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted Amazon a license to deploy and operate Project Kuiper satellites.
First Prototype Satellites
Amazon launched the first two prototype satellites on 6th October, 2023. The mission was successful and they intend to begin deploying satellite constellation this year and offering service to customers next year. The first full-scale Kuiper mission for Q4 is targeted aboard an Atlas V rocket from ULA.
