Jacobs Will Support and Assess the First UK Space Satellite Launch Project
20th Aug 2021Jacobs, a leading professional consulting service, joins the ranks of Sutherland Space Hub and the UK space satellite launch project. The company will assess the local supply chain to provide a detailed report on which skills and capabilities could transfer to the space industry and boost its development. Jacobs will also be responsible for the gap analysis and assessing the socio-economic impacts of spaceport operations within the area.
First UK Space Satellite Launch Project
Sutherland Spaceport is the first UK space satellite launch project to get planning permission from the government, which may imply that this spaceport could become the first vertical launch site in the UK. The spaceport is slated to host Orbex Space with its eco-friendly, low-carbon rocket, Prime, at the facility.
Project developer, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, and Sutherland Project Director, Roy Kirk, believe this UK space satellite launch project has great potential for the region’s prosperity. Mr. Kirk is also confident that Jacob’s expertise in the space sector will give the spaceport a competitive advantage and help highlight any gaps in the currently proposed project.
Jacobs Representatives on Upcoming Analysis
According to Jacobs Vice President, Clive White, their research and strategy planning will help create a cluster of space services in Scotland and ensure steady, sustainable growth of the space sector. Mr. White is confident that the UK space sector will grow as predicted, reaching a total worth of £4 billion by 2030. This, in turn, will create many high-skilled jobs and boost the economy. He adds that Jacobs will leverage its experience supporting NASA to help the UK space industry reach its height. With Jacobs on board, the future of the first UK space satellite launch project, as well as the local space industry, does seem bright.
