Wally Funk will Be a Part of Blue Origin’s First Human Flight to Space

Blue Origin has invited Wally Funk to join the Bezos brothers on their first tourist flight to space. The update was posted on the company’s official website on 1st July. The actual flight will take place on 20th July.

Who is Wally Funk?

Wally Funk is the youngest graduate of the 1960s Woman in Space Program. This privately-funded project trained female pilots for astronaut fitness. The program was also dubbed Mercury 13 – for the 13 American women that went through the same training conditions as male astronauts of NASA’s Project Mercury. However, despite successfully completing their training, none of the thirteen flew to space. Still, Wally became the first female FAA inspector and NTSB air safety investigator.

Now, the 82-year old Wally Funk will finally get to fulfill her lifelong dream of human flight to space. She will soon become the oldest person to fly to space.

Blue Origin Human Flight Details

Jeff Bezos, the owner of Blue Origin, has personally asked Wally Funk to join him and his brother Mark Bezos on this flight as an honoured guest. Besides the Bezos brothers and Wally Funk, the first human flight to space will be attended by a lucky winner of Blue Origin’s auction for a final available seat.
