Boris Johnson controversy – sponsored by Virgin Orbit

At the start of the G7 summit in Cornwall this week, there has already been some controversy as Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps turned up in what appeared to be Virgin-sponsored jackets.

The UK government ministers were on a visit to Virgin Orbit at Spaceport Cornwall when they drew some controversial comments as they wore jackets with their ministerial titles as well as a Virgin Orbit logo in front of Virgin Orbit’ LauncherOne rocket.

Twitter was awash with amusing comments, suggesting that it appeared the Prime Minister was sponsored by Richard Branson’s space company.

The G7 summit amongst other things will discuss Climate Change. The Spaceport Cornwall project was subject to a number of demonstrations by Climate Change activists from Extinction Rebellion. The activists were angered by Cornwall Council providing funding of £20 million towards the Spaceport whilst failing to honour its Climate Change pledges. The project funding was approved despite the protests.
